The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom how to get Majora’s Mask

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom how to get Majora's Mask

If you’re wondering how to get Majora’s Mask in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, the good news is that it’s relatively easy to get to early on in the game. However, it’s not so easy to crack the chest containing it, but hopefully with the tips in the guide below you’ll stand a better chance.

The addition of Majora’s Mask in TotK is a homage to the classic Nintendo 64 game, which was the sequel to The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. There’s no Skull Kid, but you can don the mask and use it to fool enemies all around Hyrule.

You get it by venturing into the Depths, not too far away from your initial exploration with Robbie to get the camera. We’ll take you through the details for the location to begin with and how to get to it if you haven’t already followed the Depths quests with Robbie and Josha.

Majora’s Mask location in TotK

The location for Majora’s Mask in Tears of the Kingdom is close to the Great Abandoned Central Mine, which you can see in the map below if you want to just go straight there. You can get down to it by dropping into the Hyrule Field Chasm, which is where you’re sent by Josha to investigate the statues in the Depths.

It’s also where you get the Autobuild ability, but you need to head a little further north west to get to the spot where you find the mask. As you head north east from the mine you should see the an arena creep onto the map and it’s here that you’ll find the throwback armor.

It’s called the Floating Coliseum and when you climb its walls you can look down on the chest that contains Majora’s Mask. You can also see that’s red locked, but when you use the glider to get close to it you’ll find out what the challenge is to crack it open and claim the prize.

How to get Majora’s Mask

The challenge at The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Floating Coliseum is to defeat five Lynel’s in straight succession. However, the difficulty doesn’t end there as it will be progressively stronger Lynels that you’ll have to defeat.

There are a few key principles to most Lynel fights, so we’ll cover the bases here, but the last one is a Silver Lynel and it’s armor is going to feel impenetrable. You can read our guide on how to defeat the last Lynel in the Arena, but the key is to fuse a Shard of the Light Dragon’s Spike to you weapon.

With this, you can make pretty short work of the armor it has, which will then free you up to use the tips below to close out the Floating Coliseum. Once you defeat it, the lock on the chest will fall and you can claim the Majora’s Mask for yourself.

However, if you’re struggling with the five fights, you can see our full guide as mentioned with the link above. The best way to inflict damage is to perfect dodge its attacks and flurry rush the Lynels with your most powerful weapon Fuse combination (Lynel Horn is a good one, by-the-way).

Dodge straight on or downward strikes by side hopping at the right moment and cross swipes can be done with a back-flip, which will set you up for lots of big damage opportunities. Sprint to avoid projectile shots and then use Keese Eyeballs to make homing arrows to get the perfect head shot every time.

This will stun it, so you can run in to get in a few hits before mounting the Lynel to wrack up even more damage. If you’ve got the Sages then they’re going to get in some shots too, so you should be able to breeze on through the first two or three in the very least.

If you’re struggling later in the arena then having a good supply of Gloom fixing meals in your inventory will help. If you’re not too sure about the recipe for this you might want to read our guide to the sick grandma in Kakariko Village.

Another way to mitigate damage is to put on your best armor. Having the Champion’s Tunic, Diamond Circlet and Soldier’s Grieves fully upgraded will keep the impacts to a minimum and you can see the link below for details on where to get them, along with some of the other best armor in TotK.

If you don’t have that then you might want to go into the fight with an Ironshroom meal to boost your defense. However, if it’s extra attack you need then our guide to Might Banana farming will come in handy.

With all of the tips on how to defeat the five Lynels you should at least have a sporting chance of making it through. You’ll then get the Majora’s Mask to use whenever you want in The Legend of Zelda, which will give you a sneaky edge against enemies making them less likely to spot you.
