The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom King Dorephan location

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom King Dorephan location

Once you’ve started the process with Prince Sidon when you take on the Zora Regional Phenomena in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom you need to track down King Dorephan’s location. The general gist is that you need the King’s Mark to shoot through a tear shape on an island that looks like a fish.

However, Prince Sidon hasn’t got a clue what the King’s Mark is or where his dear old giant pappy Dorephan is located. The good news, though, is that there are a few clues to follow, it’s just that they’re a bit confusing and all too easy to stuck on.

To help you speed on through the Zora section, here’s our guide to finding the King Dorephan location. We’ll also cover what you need to do with the King’s Mark once you get it, which will see you heading up to take on the water Temple high above the domain.

Following the clues to find the location

If you want to skip straight ahead to the location, you can check out the section below, but if you want all of the TotK dialogue relating to the whereabouts of King Dorephan then you need to start by going back to the throne room in Zora.

There, you’ll find three young Zorans pretending to be the King and you need to sneak around to the back of the throne to overhear their conversation. Climb up and into the area directly behind them and they’ll start talking about the King retreating to his sanctuary, which is hidden behind one of the waterfalls.

As with all things The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, there’s a lot of ground to cover and it’s easy to miss the little details that will see you making it in to see King Dorephan. You can easily scour all of the various waterfalls in the domain and still draw a blank unless you approach it in a very specific way.

What you need to do is to head north east out of the city and over to the series of waterfalls leading up to the location where you fond Prince Sidon. Put the Zora Armor on and swim up the first of the waterfalls, using the glider to get a little closer to the falls to make things easier.

Repeat the process on the next of the waterfall leading up from the shallow pool with the pointy rock in the middle and this will take you up to the third level above Zora. This is where the entrance to King Dorephan’s sanctuary is, but even when you know this you can spend ages trying to get behind the waterfall without success.

Instead, what you need to do is to look at the rocks to the left as you land in front of the waterfall. They’re covered in mud and king of a misdirection on the part of TotK, but if you climb over these and look down you’ll discover a secret entrance to King Dorephan’s location.

If you’re coming at it from above, you just need to use the glider and look down instead of coming too far out away from the waterfall. If you get too much distance then you won’t be able to spot the hole in the ground next to the falls behind the rocks.

It’s only two levels down from Prince Sidon’s spot at the top fighting the mud, but it can be a bit frustrating to see it. If you’re still struggling, you can check out the video below to see it. Fly on down and you’ll find King Dorephan recovering from an attack from a Sludge Like, which you’ll need to fight in the not so distant future.

Talk to him and he’ll give you the Mark of the King, which is one of his scales. In fact, he gives you a few and says that you can head on back to get more if you want to and these will come in handy for what you need to do next and in the fight with the Sludge Like.

What to do after you find King Dorephan

Once you have the Mark of the King from Dorephan, you can go back to tell Sidon and then you’ll need to find the land of the sky fish, which is essentially an island with a mouth like a fish. You can see it just behind where Prince Sidon is located and you get up to it by using the glider to get to the waterfall.

When you get up to fish island, head to the top middle platform and look down to the side to see a series of rocks floating. The location that you’re aiming for is to the right facing away from the mouth of the fish and looking down to the muddy lake below.

If you look at them in the right spot they’re shaped like a tear and as soon as you shoot an arrow fused with the Mark of the King you’ll activate a whirlpool portal in the muddy lake. You can see it in the video below if you can’t get the angle right. Head back to Sidon and you’ll then have the boss fight mentioned above to take on. It can be tricky, so check out our Sludge Like guide for more details on how to beat it.

Once you take it out, you and Sidon can head on down to investigate the portal, and this will see you heading up to the challenge of the Water Temple. It’s a tough one with a lot of puzzles and it’s guarded by the boss, the Mucktorok, so expect the challenge to kick up a notch.

That’s everything you need to know about King Dorephan’s location in the Zora Domain.
