The Matrix Resurrections rent online release date

If you’re struggling to head out to the cinema or you’re merely trying to stay in due to COVID-19, then you’ll be keen to hear the latest rent online release date information for The Matrix Resurrections. Here outside of the computer controlled world (hopefully) movie rentals are a little convoluted, what with different ways to own and rent films and the impact of the global pandemic on the movie industry. However, we’ll do our best to give you the red pill version with the latest on the release date for all options.

The film, as we know, is a direct sequel of The Matrix Revolutions (2003) and sees the return of both Neo and Trinity as the programmed world gets yet another shake down. We don’t want to give too much away in terms of the story/plot for those who haven’t yet seen the movie, but as you might imagine it’s another mind-bending journey for the duo.

From the 2021 Trailer, we started to see that Neo is having snippets of the Matrix world in his reality, which leads him to question his own mind and logic with a trip to what appears to be his psychiatrist. The Matrix is not what it seems to be yet again and Neo is pulled back in with all signs pointing to going back to the looking glass, all to learn the truth about what has happened to the characters from the original trilogy.

There are a lot of outstanding questions about The Matrix Resurrections if you’ve only seen the trailers. As a result, it’s easy to see why so many people will want to see first hand what it all means or to re-watch the film to puzzle things out a bit more when it’s available to rent online. So let’s dive into what we know.

Home premier rental

The first available opportunity to watch The Matrix Resurrections from the comfort of your sofa is on home premier rental, which is usually around 45-60 days after the initial cinematic release in the UK and even less in the US where it is now available. This is a relatively new developing market and one movie distribution companies will want to maintain with it becoming more important for sales in the light of the pandemic.

With that in mind, your first chance to rent the film is likely to be around early to mid February 2022 in the UK as the movie hit cinemas on 22nd December 2021 both here and in North America. It’s a shame that we didn’t get the same opportunity as the US with the chance to see The Matrix Resurrections on streaming platform HBO Max for 31 days (for all subscribers who have signed up for $14.99). Instead, Amazon Prime video seems to be the best option in terms of early access to the 4th entry in the series online with the film already out in the US. Other providers for home premier rental will no doubt be the Play Store and iTunes.

Standard rent online rent release date

Like the world of the Deus Ex-Machina, there’s a lot to take into consideration when looking at The Matrix Resurrections rent online release date, with the film still out on the big screen. However, if we go by the new normal reality for UK rental then it should come out a little under three months after theatrical shows began.

Therefore, with a Christmas 2021 release we just might be looking at mid to late March 2022 for the 4th film in the series. This is based on a relatively new development in the movie industry which has seen the gap between cinema and home entertainment condensed, so things could change at any moment. If rental releases revert to the way things used to be before summer 2021, it could be as late as the end of April, or early May before it comes out, so we’ll provide updates here as details are confirmed with for the official date.

Looking forward, the shorter release window looks more likely with all other big films in the last few months following that model. It started with the No Time to Die DVD and Blu-ray, which came out on the 20th December 2021 after its cinema run which began on the 30th September. It was then the same for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ring, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, The Many Saints of Newark and The House of Gucci.

It’ll be a similar situation to buy the film on DVD, Blu-ray and digital. While it hasn’t officially been confirmed in terms of when it’s coming out, this is usually a week or so earlier than when it’s available to rent online. This will be your first chance to see the film outside of home premier rental, so if you don’t mind waiting an extra month or so you’ll be able to own the film for a similar price tag.

As mentioned earlier, we’ll update you with more information once it has been confirmed, but the details above should give you some ballpark dates to aim for with the home premier online rental being the earliest option.
