Opening track and summer-time love-in, This Summer I’ll Make It Up To You, has got a great beat combined with up tempo moogling. Starting out with the patter of rain, it dashes it away with the cool bass-line that runs throughout the song and flashes on the Ray-Ban rays.
Burnt Butterfly kicks of with the sound of insanity before breaking into a French doo-wop pop flow that could easily be a candidate for a future Alexandre Desplat project. She Oughta Be In Malibu is the lap of waves with cute moog organ fun tunes. It’s a track with a sense of humour as well as a great feel.
I Will Take My Own Hand seems like a dip to begin with but its relaxed rhythm and lyrics get under your skin after a few seconds to pull together a stylish ska-pop track. However, things go left field with the Muppet effect vocals on ^^ & Away, but as it coalesces with comic timing, it seems to work OK as a cap to a good EP release.
As soon as summer finally hits, Caged Animals’ This Summer EP will be at its heart. If you’re planning a drive down to the seafront in July and August this should be on your eight track for sure.
Caged Animals This Summer EP review: 4/5
