For us, they’re the greatest animated creation since Morph, and the little yellow banana-loving rascals will be back in 2022 with the Minions 2 The Rise Of Gru UK release date (details below) finally on the way. You can also find out more about the age rating certificate, story, cast and run time.
The Illumination creation got their own origin story debut on the big screen in 2015 and first appeared in Despicable Me in 2010. Since then they’ve never looked back (except when they were being chased by Scarlet Overkill or that crazy old Tow Of London guard).Advertisement Their brilliant animation and unique style is a big part of their success, but the voices from director Pierre Coffin is the real key to the genius of the characters. It’s going to be fun to listen to their latest chat in the sequel to Minions as the little guys team up with a very fresh-faced Gru to continue the prequel story to Despicable Me.
This time the plot is essentially how Kevin, Stuart, Bob and the gang managed to become Gru’s little helpers. Coffin has given up the director’s chair for the release of Minions 2, passing the baton on to Kyle Balda, who co-directed the first film with him and his accomplice Chris Renaud, and Brad Ableson. Hopefully, this means that he’s dedicating his time to really get into character for the 2022 film to bring even more comedy brilliance to it.
Voice castAdvertisement With the arrival of trailer 1, the main cast list for the film was officially announced. In addition to Pierre Coffin being back as all of the Minions, including new addition to the yellow army, Otto, the voice cast also brings back Steve Carell as the young Gru.
If that isn’t enough on the returning front, the details in the description for the trailer also confirm that Russell Brand will also be back to voice Dr. Nefario. Minions 2 is set in the 1970s, so at this stage the Dr. is just an aspiring mad scientist in the prime of his life.Advertisement Former leader of the Vicious 6 Wild Knuckles is voiced by Alan Arkin and the other five members that ousted him are Belle Bottom, who is played by Taraji P. Henson, Jean-Claude Van Damme as Jean Clawed, Lucy Lawless as Nunchuck, Dolph Lundgren as Svengeance and Danny Trejo as Stronghold.
The voice cast also introduces Julie Andrews as Gru’s mum Marlena, and Michelle Yeoh as Master Chow.
Minions 2 The Rise Of Gru UK release date
The good news for fans of the little yellow dudes is that the Minions 2 The Rise Of Gru UK release date has been scheduled for Friday the 1st July 2022, so there isn’t too long to wait. If it can replicate the success of the first film, which went on to become the highest grossing animated film outside the House of Mouse, it should be one of the biggest films of the summer, animated or otherwise.
It’s the only new film out that weekend, so it’s in a good place to pick up the number one spot. However, it’ll have the likes of Top Gun Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, Lightyear and Elvis as competition with all of them having releases earlier in the month.
Age rating and parents guide
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has confrimed the Minions 2 The Rise Of Gru UK age rating with the release date approaching. It has been given a U certificate, which is the same as the first film with just mild comedy violence to be aware of.
The parents guide notes for the prequel sequel should be very similar. Both Despicable Me and Minions films may well feature characters with questionable criminal affiliations, but the reality is that they’re pretty mild with little emotional baggage. The violence is so daft that it laughs in the face of slapstick and the overarching message is do good (or at least it is in the end) so this is going to be one for all ages.
We’ll update you with more details on Minions 2 as it becomes available and you can check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest, or check out the official movie webpage on the Universal site at https://www.universalpictures.com/movies/minions-the-rise-of-gru.
The runtime for Minions 2 The Rise of Gru has been confirmed alongside the age rating now that the release date is coming up. It’ll be 1 hour and 28 minutes long, so just a few minutes shorter than the first film.
