Street Fighter X Tekken

Street Fighter X TekkenComing to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in early 2012, Street Fighter X Tekken brings the old school, hyperspeed of the Street Fighter gameplay engine to the Tekken fighters. Though it’s obviously a bit of a retrograde for the 3D might of Tekken, it still looks like a furiously detailed fighter.

Though Street Fighter X Tekken is fundamentally based on the original Street Fighter II side-scrolling 2D action, there’s a real unique look and feel to the new game. Taking Japanese anime animation techniques, the guys at Capcom have produced something that looks slick and fresh.

To add to the pace – and perhaps detract from the disappointment of not seeing the epic battle of Street Fighter characters pitched against Tekken tough nuts like King and Yoshimitsu in awe inspiring 3D – the game has also added a tag function. This looks like it adds one hell of a lot of scope for beastie combo moves, especially the ones that give you a 2 vs 1 advantage.

There are also a few new characters like the collossus Hugo and the trashy looking Poisen (seen previously in the Final Fight series). However, there are also a few omissions in terms of characters by the looks of things with the likes of Marshall Law, Jack and Lei Wulong not featuring int he game.

Street Fighter X Tekken seems to be a great addition to the legacy of the two franchises. However, a full character rostered Tekken X Street Fighter, or even viseversa, would have been much more hard hitting. Despite that, the tag function definitely reinvents the Street Fighter fight engine to give it a whole new set of fighting options. Good news for anyone with a Street Fighter arcade joystick!

Street Fighter X Tekken has a release date of the 1st March 2012 in the UK.
