Its not the only historically set outing for the franchise this year, as we’ll also be getting Hogwards Legacy later in 2022, which is set before the Fantastic Beasts films. With everything combined, we’re starting to get a very rich history to add to all of the lore, and the secrets that Dumbledore has got up his sleeve only add to this.

The story sees Newt teaming up with the future headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry once again following their initial efforts in Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald. They’ve come up with a plan to take the fight to the dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, but as with all things in life it will oft go awry before the credits roll.

UK Blu-ray, DVD and digital release date

The Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore UK digital release date arrived pretty early and it’s available both to rent and buy already. The third film in the series came out in cinemas in Britain on the 8th April 2022, and it has been a big part of the industry’s initial resurgence following the COVID pandemic.

The digital release will precede the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD by a good few weeks with the film due out in the UK in the various formats on Monday the 25th July 2022. This is pretty close to our initial estimate for the home entertainment release in the latter weeks of July based on the normal run of things in recent months.

The film industry is slowly getting back to normal, so the gap between cinema and home entertainment is returning to its pre-pandemic time frame. The end result is that you’ll need to wait a little longer before you get to see a film from the comfort of your sofa. The most recent example of this is The Batman, which came out in cinemas in the UK on the 4th March 2022 and DVD, Blu-ray and 4K on the 13th June 2022.

Its obviously been a tough couple of years for movies, but with the powerhouse that was Spider-Man No Way Home, we saw things begin to pick up once again. The Secrets of Dumbledore looks set to go a similar way with a longer run at the box office before it turns its attention to the home entertainment formats.

In terms of competition, Fantastic Beasts 3 will have both The Lost City and Sonic The Hedgehog Movie 2 available on physical and digital around the same time. The latter has got the biggest chance of being in contention for the number 1 spot in the UK, so it’s going to be interesting to see how they fair.

We’ll update you with more details on the digital, DVD, Blu-ray and 4K release date as they get confirmed. North America release date

If you’re based in North America then you will have had the digital release date for Fantastic Beasts the Secret of Dumbledore a few weeks earlier than in the UK, you lucky things, you. For Blu-ray and 4K it’s due to come out in the US and Canada on the 28th June 2022, so again earlier than in the UK.

We’ve also noticed new development in North America for its equivalent to Home Premier early access rental. They’ve been playing around with a higher priced digital purchase option to coincide with the early access rental, and that appears to be the case for this film Stateside.

The simple point in our Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore UK DVD, Blu-ray & digital review section is that if you’re a fan of the Wizarding World films then this could be one for you. If you haven’t seen or enjoyed any of the other films, of which there are many, then this is definitely not going to be the best starting point, or turning point for that matter.

It does exactly what it says on the tin and for cinema goers all over the world it ticked a lot of boxes as it explored more of the back story behind the world of Harry Potter. Eddie Redmayne brings his quintessential charm to the character of New Scamander and Jude Law makes a strong companion as Aldus Dumbledore.

Admittedly, he doesn’t look like the headmaster of Hogwarts, but sometimes in film you’ve just got to suspend your belief. Clearly, the next few years are going to be pretty tough on the middle-aged professor as he tackles the might of Gellert Grindlewald.

With Hogwarts Legacy out later this year too, there’s a lot of action, adventure and lore to explore this year and The Secrets of Dumbledore does a good job of teasing that potential. There were obvious questions about the cast changes when Mads Mikkleson stepped in as Gellert Grindelwald, but he does a pretty good job in the role.

Digital, DVD and Blu-ray review: 3.8/5
