Sing 2 UK release date, age rating and parents guide

Get the vocals warmed up, because it’s going to be on like a koala up a dingo’s tree with the Sing 2 UK release date scheduled for early 2022 (details below). If humming Under Pressure or I’m Still Standing isn’t quite enough, you can also find out everything you need to know about the film right here with the latest on the age rating in our parents guide, as well the story, cast and runtime estimate.

The general idea of the plot is that Buster Moon is attempting to take the show on the road to the entertainment capital of the animal kingdom, Redshore City, which looks a whole lot like Las Vegas. However, to land a show, he needs to take things to the next level with the gang that made the first show such a big hit. The clincher, though, is securing rock legend Clay Calloway.

The problem is that he’s become a complete recluse and refuses to get involved. If that isn’t enough, there’s also a white wolf called Jimmy Crystal in charge of the whole thing and seems pretty keen on the idea of throwing Buster off the roof of his skyscraper tower. Add in some nerves for Rosita, dance challenges for Johnny, bad driving from Miss Crawley and some inspirational singing from Ash and you’ve got the makings of a madcap sequel.

Cast

The Sing 2 cast is led by Matthew McConaughey (The Gentlemen) as Buster Moon, Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) as Ash, Reese Witherspoon (Monsters vs. Aliens) as Rosita, Taron Egerton (Eddie The Eagle) as Johnny and Tori Kelly as Meena. New additions to the cast include Bono of U2 fame as reclusive rocker Clay Calloway, and Bobby Canavale (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as the white wolf Jimmy Crystal.

The film also stars Pharrell Williams and Letitia Wright (Death on the Nile).

Sing 2 UK release date

There’s a little ambiguity to the Sing 2 UK release date with Universal Pictures listing is as coming soon, while also putting it down for January 2022. However, cinemas have it coming out over here on Friday the 28th January 2022, which ties in with what Universal are saying, so that’s the best date to aim for.

However, it will be out in the US and Canada a whole lot earlier with a release date scheduled for Wednesday the 22nd December 2022. With such a big difference in the dates, there’s bound to be a lot of plot details online in between the UK and US arrival, but in all fairness, you can probably guess the plot in its entirety from the trailer. When it comes to sing, it’s less about the story and more about the songs and the experience.

It doesn’t have any direct competition in the UK on the 28th January 2022 with no other films due out on the same weekend. Morbius will still be running following its debut on the 21st, and then Death on the Nile hits the big screen a couple of weeks later, but neither of them are in the same category or age demographic as Sing 2, so they probably won’t change too much for it.

The January release window means that it should go on to come out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital in the UK in May 2022, which will make it an early summer contender for home entertainment.

Age rating and parents guide

The Sing 2 UK age rating won’t be announced by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) until a couple of weeks before the release date, but there’s a lot to go on from the first film. It was given a certification of U for Universal and looking at the trailer it’s quite possible that it will be a similar story for the sequel.

As a result, the parents guide notes should also be along the same lines with some mild language, threat and rude humour in the mix. This is definitely a contender for the whole family ranging from 3 up to 123, although, the oldest person ever was 118, so maybe that’s a bit of a stretch.

We’ll update you with more details on the film as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming film release dates, age rating and parents guide details, or visit the Universal Pictures website at https://www.universalpictures.co.uk.

Runtime

As with the certification, the Sing 2 runtime won’t be announced until we get a little close to the release. The first film was 1 hour and 48 minutes, which is sort of on the long side for an animated film. It’s a good ball park for the runtime for the sequel though with the divergent paths story.
