The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Fire Temple Guide – How to unlock all locks to open the gate

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Fire Temple Guide - How to unlock all locks to open the gate

Our walkthrough for The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom continues with our Fire Temple guide where you need to unlock all locks to open the gate to get to Zelda. It takes place after the darkness of the Death Mountain Chasm, and it’s spread over the many floors of the Fire Temple with a load of puzzles to solve along the way.

You’ve got Yunobo along with you, having saved him from himself with a mini boss fight and working together to defeat Moragia to get into the Death Mountain Chasm. He’s definitely going to come in handy with his ability throughout the temple, so with the tips in our guide you should be able to pop all the locks.

Once you do that, you’ll open the gate to get into the area where you last saw Princess Zelda. She’s still behaving weirdly, and floated up to the ceiling on red rocks to get trapped in the center, so the general aim is to go after her to see what’s going on.

Fire Temple Lock #1

Head up the ramp with the construct at the top and defeat it. You can then jump over the lava on the rock platforms. Fuse the hydrant to your shield and use it to make stepping stones across the next lava pool, ride the mine cart up the rails and use Yunobo to shoot the switch ahead, so you keep on going across.

On the other side there’s a Fire Like to defeat and then you can fire Yunobo up a ramp to hit the rock on the other side. If you’re not sure about what to do here, you can see the ramp in the video below at 07:30.

You can then jump across the lava using the stepping stones and you’ll find the first of the Fire Temple lock mechanisms inside. As with the Wind and Water Temple before it in TotK, you need to use Yunobo’s ability to unlock it and in this case you just need to fire him at the gong and that’s one lock down.

Fire Temple Lock #2

Retrace your steps back out and up to the mine car track. Hit the switch and ride one up to the right of the switch. It’s blocked by red rock, so use Yunobu to smash it on the way and do the same to defeat the construct that comes up alongside you.

When you stop, get out to flip the track with the switch at the end and ride it back where you came, tripping the arrow switch on the way to head to the right. You’ll then have a path to the right which you can open by flipping the switch, leading to a chest and more constructs to defeat.

You’ll also have a path to the left when you trip the other switch and this is the direction you need to go in to get to the second of the 5 Fire Temple locks. Ride across and use your hydrant shield to make a lava bridge, so that you can smash the rock with Yunobu.

Use recall on the floating squares to ride them back up across the lava and you’ll have a construct to defeat on the other side. You’ll also find the second of the gongs to ring to open lock #2.

Fire Temple Lock #3

For the third of the Fire Temple Locks in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you need to retrace your steps back to the mine cart and shoot the switch across the other side. When you do that, the track will take you up, but if you’re not too sure what you need to look for you can see this section in the video above at 18:24.

Ride it up and defeat the constructs on the next level. Pick up the arrows in the chest and you’ll then find two green track switches overlooking a gap. You don’t need to do anything with them just yet. Instead, ride the cart to the right of these over to the other side. Move it to the next track with Ultrahand and ride it across again.

Shoot out the red boulder with Yunobu and you can ride the track as it is over to the island opposite where you’ll find another of the Fire Temple chests (containing a Zonai Shield if you need it). Ride back and this will return you to the area with the two switches. You’ll also find rocket devices, which you can Fuse to your shield to ride up and over the broken mine cart tracks (see in the video at 25:31).

Defeat the construct on the level you get to and pick up the arrows in the chest. You should also see a broken bridge across a path in front of the building with a red rock on the other side. Shoot Yunobu at it using the rails to bump him across and you’ll get some balloon devices.

Use these to make a balloon with the metal platforms and ride up to the level above this, which is Fire Temple 5F. Here you’ll find the gong to unlock the third padlock.

Fire Temple Lock #4

From the ledge looking back on the Fire Temple you should be able to see an area out in the middle a little lower down. There’s a ruby in the chest over there and you can make it with the glider. You can also use a rocket shield Fuse to get extra height if you need it and you can see where to get it in the video walkthrough guide above at 32:57.

From here, walk along the narrow ledge on outside in the direction of the next lock location prompt on the map. Climb for height and use the glider to fly across to Fire Temple 3F. Defeat the constructs and use Yunobu to smash the red rocks. That will give you a ramp that you can move with Ultrahand to place it on a mine cart, attach it and position it aiming for the gong.

Again, you can see the exact positioning in the TotK walkthrough guide video above at 36:34. Point Yunobu towards the ramp and fire him to jump up to the gong for the fourth of the locks.

Fire Temple Lock #5

You can then move the mine cart ramp you just made to face the red rock in the other direction. You can make the jump if you climb up your current level outside wall and there will be narrow ledges to stand on.

In The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom you can press down on the right analogue stick to look at a particular direction when things are tight. Do this and look across to the ledge you’ve just cleared a way to.

Jump and use the glider to get across, using a bit of Tulin of Rito Village’s wind power to make the gap. You’ll then have a hole to drop down to the last of the Fire Temple gongs. Shoot Yunobu at it to open the lock and trip the switch by the door to get out.

You can now go back to where the locks are and activate the Zonai switch to open the gate. As with the other temples, this will see you going through to take on the Fire Temple boss, the Marbled Gohma (see the guide video above). Once it’s defeated, you will complete the Goron City Regional Phenomena, putting you another step closer to the final boss fight.
