The Lego Movie 2 theme song goes all out catchy

The Lego Movie 2 theme songWith the recent release of The Lego Movie 2, we got a chance to listen to the theme song for the first time and its hedged all its bets on being as catchy as possible. So much so, in fact, that it’s all over the title – Catchy Song (feat. T-Pain & That Girl Lay Lay) – and chorus lyrics, “It’s a catchy, catchy, it’s such a catchy song”. You can listen to it for yourself with the video below, along with a number of others songs from the film.

In all fairness, Catchy Song had pretty big plastic boots to fill with The Lego Movie’s Everything Is Awesome and while the new song isn’t as brainwave-melding as this, it’s still another hit from the block party people. You can see Chris Pratt (Emmet), Alison Brie (Princess Unikitty), Elizabeth Banks (Wildstyle) and Jimmy O. Yang getting hooked on the song in the video too.

With the release of The Lego Movie 2 game later this week, we wanted to get fully loaded on the film and we’re expecting the theme song to be a big part of it. The best lines come from the bridge, which goes, “this song’s gonna get stuck inside your head”. While country names with the word democratic in it should probably be treated with a fair amount of scepticism, the lyrics of Catchy Song call it how it goes.

Where to get The Lego Movie 2 theme song

With the recent release of the movie soundtrack, you can pick up the theme songs from the likes of the iTunes or Amazon Music stores. It’s a 2:48 version of the song, which takes the shorter section from the film and extends it with a lot of production value thrown into the kitsch, tongue-in-cheek pop mix.

You’ll also be able to listen to all of the songs from the movie again when The Lego Movie 2 DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date rolls around in June. However, the game launch should also feature them, so that should make a good stop gap until the film hits the small screen.

What other songs featured on The Lego Movie 2

The trailer for the film featured Intergalactic Planetary by The Beastie Boys. Sadly it didn’t make it onto the official soundtrack, but you can listen to it in full with the video below. The song that you’ll recognise the most, even if you haven’t seen the new film yet, is the Tween Dream Remix of Everything Is Awesome by Garfunkel & Oats. It takes the catchy original and pumps in extreme levels of tween pop layers. It’s the musical equivalent of taking marshmallows, hollowing out their cores and squeezing in condensed high fructose corn syrup before coating it in melted jelly beans and sprinkling on Skittles for extra texture.
