The biggest games for Christmas 2017:

Super Mario Odyssey

Mario’s latest big adventure has been a huge hit for fans and critics, with many considering it to be one of the best Mario games ever made. There’s plenty of content to enjoy, from exploring the beautiful open world environments to using Cappy on everything in sight. Collecting all the ‘Power Moons’ is something that will keep players occupied for weeks on end. There is also a great story to be experienced. Super Mario Odyssey is a must have for all Nintendo Switch users. Nintendo were risky in throwing a whole bunch of new ideas at the Mario formula, but it’s most certainly paid off.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2

The yet to be released Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is looking like it’ll be another big hit on the Switch. With an impressive battle system, interesting story and in-depth gameplay, this is a game that RPG fans should fall in love with. All the improvements made from its successor look really cool, giving it plenty of hype. We have to wait a couple weeks to see how good the finished product will be but, unless something goes drastically wrong, this is a game likely to deserve a solid place in your stocking.

Star Wars Battlefront II

Ignoring the current controversy that’s seen widespread media coverage and involvement from Disney, the recently released Star Wars: Battlefront 2 by EA DICE offers plenty for players to enjoy. The much requested single player campaign, set between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens, should be an enjoyable experience for everyone, particularly Star Wars fans. There is a strong multiplayer mode, including the epic Starfighter Assault space battle mode, as was seen in the highly popular beta, with many cool game modes and maps to keep you busy for a long time. Let’s just hope this micro-transactions issue gets sorted out sooner rather than later.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

Already being touted by many to be one of the best games in the decade old series, Assassin’s Creed Origins is a welcome return to the formula which has been improved to be the most enjoyable it’s ever been. With a new beautiful cultural setting to explore, likeable characters, refined combat and more mission variety, it’s an experience which needs to be played. There’s plenty of great DLC to come as well, so it’s a game you’ll still be playing well into 2018. Origins’ Ancient Egypt offers a lot for players to enjoy, which is why it deserves to execute a leap of faith right into your stocking.

Call Of Duty: World War II

Call of Duty has finally returned to its World War 2 roots, which is enough to get most people excited. All three traditional modes, campaign, multiplayer and Zombies, return with various improvements to make Call Of Duty: World War II the best in the series for years. Campaign puts players through an explosive experience while Zombies will appeal to all fans of the mode. I mean, you get to play as David Tennant which is simply amazing. Multiplayer has the enjoyable new War mode and goes back to its gameplay roots to give players a more strategic and entertaining experience. If it’s been years since Call of Duty was a part of your Christmas, this year is the perfect time to reinstate it.

FIFA 18

Arguably the most popular game on this list, FIFA 18 is worthy of a place on the Christmas lists for both football fans and casual gamers. The gameplay has received few new additions, but current elements have seen improvements in EA Sports’ continued quest to deliver the most satisfying virtual football experience. The unique Journey mode returns continuing the manic story of Alex Hunter, while Ultimate Team is better than ever with plenty of cool new features with Squad Battles being the best of the bunch. It’s safe to say that it’ll be difficult for your parents to drag you downstairs for Christmas dinner if you find this in your stocking.

Destiny 2

The hit online multiplayer game returns with improvements over its predecessor creating a better experience for players. Destiny 2 offers a new fun story along with new multiplayer PvE and PvP game modes. Players can form clans to try and become the best squad in the huge community with many rewards in store. With four massive worlds and a variety of new weapons and armour, there’s very few online experiences that can match with Bungie’s shooter. Gather your clan up on Christmas and create some winter mayhem.

Forza Motorsport 7 / Gran Turismo Sport

Xbox and PlayStation’s exclusive racing franchises have both received new outings this year, with each game having gorgeous graphics and fun racing gameplay to please players on either console. Both racers offer a huge amount of vehicles and a fun online experience. These are the no.1 racing games to get, although F1 may be tempted by the equally impressive F1 2017. No matter what, racing fans are certainly spoilt this year with Forza Motorsport 7 and Gran Turismo Sport.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

A game that is definitely a stark contrast with Christmas is Wolfenstein ll: The New Colossus with its story of a Nazi dominated world. However, the compelling story and fun fast-paced gunplay has proven to be a hit with fans and critics alike. If you’re looking for an enjoyable, explosive shooter with a solid narrative then this game should definitely be on your Christmas list.
