What will be the next Marvel movie after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?

What will be the next Marvel movie after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

It’s been a roller coaster of a few years for MCU fans, so here’s everything we know about what will be the next Marvel movie after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. We’ll also over off the slate for the superhero movies throughout Phases 5 and 6 to give you a solid roadmap to follow anytime you wan to head back and see what’s coming up next.

2023 started out with a lot of promise with anticipation running high for the introduction of Kang the Conqueror as the next big bad in Ant-man and the Wasp Quantumania. However, reviews haven’t exactly been sparkling and the things look a little tenuous in terms of what happens next for Kang.

The good news is that we’ve got Guardians of the galaxy Vol 3 coming out at the beginning of May and initial impressions have been positive from what we’ve seen. It’ll be James Gunn’s last Marvel movie with his recent skip on over to DC Studios to head things up over there, so we’re hoping he lit things up to say goodbye.

However, things don’t stop there for the continuation of Phase 5 as there’s more still to come in 2023. We’ll take you through what will be the next movie in the section below and then we’ll add in details for the rest of Phase 5 below that before closing things out with a look ahead at Phase 6.

As mentioned above, things aren’t as solid as they used to be for the future of the Marvel series, so things could well change the coming months and years. We’ll update things here to keep you in the loop with the latest on the next Marvel Cinematic Universe films set to grace the big screen.

What comes next after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?

After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 we’ve got a long summer break before we get the next Marvel movie. It’ll be The Marvels, which continues the story for Carol Danvers – AKA Captain Marvel – as she finds herself caught in a quantum entanglement nightmare.

Essentially, every time she uses her powers, she switches places with Kamala Khan/Miss Marvel and Monica Rambeau. If that isn’t enough to contend with, the switch also happens when either of the other two use their powers, so Carol can find herself getting switched out when she least expects it.

Brie Larson will be back in the lead role as Captain Marvel and she’ll be joined by Teyonah Paris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan. The latter continue their roles in the MCU from their TV introductions in WandaVision and Miss Marvel on Disney Plus.

In fact, it was at the very end of Miss Marvel that we got our first teaser for the entanglement switching when Kamala switches places with Carol right at the very end. Samuel L. Jackson will be back in the fray as Nick Fury, as he’ll be helping to sort the whole mess out with them.

We’re not 100% sure about the timelines, but we think The Marvels will take place after the events of Secret Invasion. We’ll find out for sure when the show arrives on Disney Plus in June 2023.

As this is a few months earlier than the release date for The Marvels (November 10th, 2023) it kind of makes sense for the two to be in sync chronologically. It would be weird for the movie to take place before Secret Invasion and for the TV show to include things that happen after it, but we’ll find out soon enough.

Next movies after The Marvels

The Marvels will be the last Marvel movie in 2023, so you’ll have to wait for the following year to get your next fix of the action. You can see the full slate for Phase 5 with the details below, but as mentioned above there may well be changes a brewing and we’ll update things here as they happen.

  • Captain America: New World Order – planned for May 2024, this will be Anthony Mackie’s first appearance on the big screen as Captain America. He continues the role having been given the shield by Steve Rogers, picking things up where he left off in the Disney Plus show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

  • Thunderbolts – Planned for July 2024 (although this seems ridiculously close to Captain America New World Order, so we’ll see how things go), this will introduce us to a new Marvel team. It’s the MCU equivalent of the Suicide Squad antihero setup with the Winter Soldier, Ghost (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Black Widow, Red Guardian and Taskmaster making up the majority of the team.
  • Blade – Planned for September 2024 this will focus on the Vampire hunting efforts of the title character. It’s got the Wesley Snipes movie to live up to, although the special effects are pretty dated now. Mahershala Ali will take on the lead role having impressed in the Netflix show, Luke Cage.

Phase 6

After this, we’re supposed to get into the chunky Phase 6 to close out the Multiverse Saga for the MCU. As mentioned above, we’ll keep you updated on changes when we find out, but as things stands the following are the next batch of films after things finish off for Phase 5:

  • Deadpool 3 – Planned for November 2024 – this is the third film in the series starring Ryan Reynolds in the title role. Hugh Jackman will also be back in the mix as The Wolverine, so there’s a lot of hype for the film.

  • Fantastic 4 – Planned for 2025, this will be a new reboot for the franchise and introduce a new cast to the huge characters we know and love from the Marvel comics and TV shows. We don’t know anything about the story as of yet, but we’re expecting it to include Doctor Doom as the main villain.
  • Avengers The Kang Dynasty – Planned for May 2025, this will essentially be the full might of the Kang collective bearing down on the multiverse. They want to control everything and will stop at nothing to make it happen, so it’ll be up to the what remains of the Avengers to stop them. However, as this is the penultimate film in the Multiverse Saga it could mean we get a variety of new and old alternative additions to the cast like we did in Spider-Man No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
  • Avengers Secret War – Planned for May 2026, this one will close out Phase 6, but with a gap of a years between it and The Kang Dynast we might get a few more films announces before May 2025 rolls around. It’ll see the Avengers from across the multiverse being pulled into a fight to the deal on Battle World with Kang operating as the referee, so it’s going to get pretty nuts.

That’s it for our MCU rundown and what will be the next Marvel movie after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, but as mentioned above things could change. We’ll keep the dates moving above as things get finalized and we’ll add in any new films that get announced.

The film we’d most like Kevin Feige to reveal next is an X-Men film, but there’s also Armor Wars and a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We’ve also got the loose ends from The Eternals to tie up at some point, so there are a lot of options for Marvel Studios to plus the Phase 6 gaps with.
