Anne Calvi is about to storm back into the music fray with the announcement of her second studio album release, One Breath. Following on from the amazing and critically acclaimed 2010 self titled debut, Anna is closing in on launching her second outing with as much art, alt, indie rock flair as her first offering.
One Breath has a release date set for the 7th October 2013, but other than the name, track listing and an album trailer (below) there isn’t much to go on in terms what the album actually sounds like. Our shout is that Anna is holding a pretty epic hand of aces up her sleeve and we can’t wait to get a chance to listen to the album in full.
Produced by John Congleton in Blackbox Studios in France and mixed in Dallas, Texas, One Breath was written throughout 2012 as Anna continued her international tour following on from her debut release. It was apparently recorded in just a few weeks of blitzing studio sessions, so hopefully it’ll have a similar level of intensity in the finished article.
The trailer for One Breath is slightly abstract with seemingly random cut shots and flashing disappearances and lighting. Visually it feels like the middle ground between religion, cult and the occult, although according to Anna the album is about your last gasp before you’ve got to open yourself up, so it’ll be interesting to see the videos for the singles on the album too.
The songs on the trailer are mostly vocally soaring, so it’s tough to take too much from them as an indicator of what to expect. Hopefully, there will be a lot more of the great guitar playing that Anna Calvi has become known for in addition to the obvious power of her voice.
