How long is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?

How long is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

The MCU film has recently hit the big screen, so here’s everything you need to know about how long Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is. We’ll cover the runtime to start with and then discuss movie extensions like the mid and post credit scenes, along with the special features and bonus extras we’re expecting with the Blu-ray and Digital release.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 came out in the UK and North America on May 5th, 2023, making it the second film in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It follows Ant-man and the Wasp Quantumania, and it’s set to bring the Guardians’ story to a close, so there’s a lot to fit in.

This is probably why the film in the longest in the series and if you’ve seen all of the trailers then you might also be expecting it to be the saddest. Peter Quill’s tearful “noooooo” is pretty intense, so it was already set to be and emotional roller-coaster, despite the usual comedy of the series.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 runtime

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is 150 minutes long, so that’s 2 hours and 30 minutes for anyone looking for a quick conversion. The runtime was confirmed with the arrival of advanced ticket sales in North America, but that will just be how long the core film is, so you might want to add in a few extra minutes for the credits scenes (more details below).

As mentioned above, it’s the longest Guardians of the Galaxy film in the series, clocking in at 13-minutes longer than Volume 2 and 26 minutes longer than the first film. Clearly there’s going to be a lot to take in with the introduction of the High Evolutionary as the villain and his link to the Guardians.

If that isn’t enough to add to the length of the film, there’s also the situation with the love of Pete’s life, Gamora. The original Gamora was killed by Thanos in Avengers Infinity War, but with the alternate timeline Gamora in the mix this could be a big part of the story too as Starlord continues to come to terms with what happened.

While Vol 3 is pretty long in itself, it’s far from the longest in the history of the MCU with that title going to Avengers Endgame, which had a runtime of 3 hours and 1 minute. However, the 2 hours and 30 minutes runtime does make it the 4th longest MCU film after Black Panther Wakanda Forever and Eternals.

Who is the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 villain, High Evolutionary?

When you consider the fact that there have been 31 films to-date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it shows just how significant it is. Hopefully, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will avoid some of the more stilted story development in Eternals and tap into the cooler action and setup that made Black Panther 2 and Endgame so good.

However, the very fact that the High Evolutionary is the new villain means that the film will need to cover his past, so we’re expecting this to be a good chunk of the movie’s length. His origin story starts on Earth in Manchester on the 1900s, so there’s a lot of transition story to go into.

How long to wait for the credits scenes?

Even though this will be the final part of the series, there are still a couple of credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. For the mid-credits scene you’re looking at sticking around an extra minute or so, but the post credits scene will need you to wait around for 3 minutes or so after the credits starts to roll.

This will take the initial 2 hours and 30 minutes runtime and take it up to a maximum or 2 hours and 35 minutes. If you’re desperate for the loo by the time the credits start, you can check out the details below to get an idea about what happened.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 age rating and release date

There’s one that teases a future MCU story development with a not that Peter Quill will return to the MCU, having headed back to earth to reconnect with his maternal grandfather. There’s another showing the rest of the team under of characters that will continue on in their Galaxy saving ways. The Guardians films have been James Gunn’s projects for the last ten years or so, but as he’s now heading up DC Studios this will be the trilogy completion.

That’s not to say that we won’t get another Guardians of the Galaxy film, but it’ll be much changed if we do. Either way, there are bound to be some of the characters that will go on to feature in Avengers The Kang Dynasty, so the credits scenes was our first bridge to the future.

Jonathan Majors’ recent arrest in New York has added doubt to the future of the MCU as we know it, so there could well be some changes coming down the line. It’s probably too early for them to be revealed in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, but that didn’t rule out showing where Quill and the rest of the team will be heading next.

It doesn’t look like any of the credits scenes were pulled because of the uncertainty about the future. There is no mention of Kang, though, so it doesn’t really factor in at this stage.

How long will the special features and extras be for Blu-ray, 4K and digital?

When will Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Rocket

The details for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 special features and bonus extras won’t be confirmed until we get much closer to the Blu-ray, 4K and digital release date. However, we can take a lot from previous films like Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, which has a little over two hours of special features bundled with the digital release.

If you compare that to what was bundled with the first two films, you’re probably about on the money. For example, the last film included features on the making of the film, a music video, gag reel, deleted scenes, audio commentary and the ability to play the movie with an intro from James Gunn.
