Uncharted UK release date, age rating and parents guide

With the arrival of the trailer we now know for sure that 2022 will be the year that the Uncharted film UK release date will take place (see more details below). It follows a lengthy delay, but with the film finally 100% confirmed here’s everything you need to know about it, including the latest on the age rating in our parents guide section, plus the story, cast and runtime estimate.

As a computer game adaptation, it instantly skates on thin ice, because so many games that get made into movies struggle with critics and box office success. However, it follows on from a mini revival, with the likes of Assassin’s Creed, Detective Pikachu and Sonic The Hedgehog doing enough to light the touch paper recently, so maybe, just maybe, the Uncharted movie can turn it all around.

The plot is set to be a prequel to the main story of the games, building out the origin for main characters Nathan Drake and Sully. Obviously, the two are much younger in the film than in the games as they first meet up and head out on a hunt together to find Ferdinand Magellan’s treasure. They’ll have some competition along the way from a villainous fellow treasure hunter who is out to get the trove for himself.

Cast

Apart from the two lead roles, very little is currently known about the rest of the Uncharted film cast, but there’s bound to be more revelations in the build-up to the movie’s release. The young Nathan Drake will be played by Spider-Man No Way Home and Avengers: Endgame star Tom Holland, which seems a little out of character, even when you take into account the origin story synopsis. The lead in the game is meant to be a cross between Harrison Ford and Johnny Noxville (bizarrely) and as good as Holland is in Endgame and Homecoming, he’s neither Kessell Run nor Jackass ready.

His treasure hunting mentor and buddy, Victor “Sully” Sullivan, will be played by Mark Wahlberg, making this their debut collaboration together. On first inspection it feels like a slightly unusual pairing, although, it kind of works enough in the trailer. It still feels a bit like it’s going to be Spider-Man meets that guy from Transformers, but hopefully they manage to find a way to become the characters that gamers know and love enough for the full film release.

The trailer has also confirmed Antonio Banderas as the villain, along with Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle.

Uncharted film UK release date

The Uncharted film UK release date was Friday 11th February 2022, but then this is a movie that really should have been coming out on a number of different dates. It recently had a date change from March 2021, with the COVID pandemic playing its part in things. However, the arrival of the trailer was a good indication that it was on like Donkey Kong for 2022.

Whether it’s a work of intentional genius or just dumb coincidence, the 2022 Uncharted release date is a week later than the new Jackass Forever movie, which will be its competition for the box office number one spot. However, it will also have Death on the Nile, following on from the success of Murder on the Orient Express, as it’s main contender, which is out in the UK on the same weekend.

As the film is coming out in February 2022, it should then come out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital around May/June 2022. There are no details as of yet in terms of when it will be available to stream in the UK.

Age rating and parents guide

The official Uncharted movie age rating has now been confirmed for the UK with the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) announcing it as a 12A. If Tomb Raider has taught us anything, it’s that this kind of film has got 12 written all over and that has gone on to be the case here. The trailer pointed to a similar certificate, and the BBFC confirmation sealed the deal closer to the release date.

For anyone based in North America, it’s been given a PG-13 certification.

Parents guide notes include moderate violence and threat, but there isn’t any injury detail, despite all of the wild stunts that take place in the movie. There was also a chance of language showers on the Wahlberg side of the equation, but there isn’t much of anything to be concerned about unless you’ve got issues with puberty jokes.

We’ll update the details above with more on the film, including the age rating and parents guide, as they materialise. You can check out our movie news section to see other film releases in 2022, or see the official Uncharted website at https://www.unchartedthegame.com/.

Runtime

The Uncharted movie runtime has also been confirmed to be 1 hour and 56 minutes, which is in line with our expected ball park of somewhere in the region of 2 hours. The Tomb Raider film was 2 minutes short of that and the Assassin’s Creed adaptation was 5 minutes off, so it was a good indicator for the Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland movie.
