Death on the Nile UK release date, age rating and parents guide

You don’t get that many murder mysteries on the big screen these days, which is why the Death on the Nile UK release date is so anticipated. To add to the build-up, here’s everything that you need to know about the Agatha Christie adaptation, including the story, run time, latest on the cast and age rating, plus our parents guide.

Following on from the success of Murder on the Orient Express (2017), Kenneth Branagh will be back in action in 2022 as the famous Belgian investigator, Hercule Poirot. This time, he’s got to solve the murder of an heiress while on a paddle steamer down the river Nile in Egypt.

As before, he knows that the suspect must be on the boat, so it’ll be up to him and Bouc to untangle the whole sorry affair. His last case led to him getting a gunshot wound to the shoulder long the way, so this time he’ll be taking no prisoners. Okay, so he took no prisoners last time, but you get the point…

Cast

As with Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile has a big ensemble cast in addition to Kenneth Branagh returning as Inspector Hercule Poirot and Tom Bateman as Bouc. They’re joined by Russell Brand as Dr. Linel Windlesham, Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman 1984) as Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle, Emma Mackey (Sex Education) as Jacqueline de Bellefort, and Letitia Wright (Avengers: Endgame) as Rosalie Otterbourne. The cast also includes Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) as Louise Bourget, Ali Fazal (Furious 7) as Andrew Katchadourian, Dawn French as Mrs. Bowers, Jennifer Saunders as Marie Van Schuyler, Sophie Okonedo (His Dark Materials) as Salome Otterbourne and Armie Hammer (The Man From U.N.C.L.E) as Simon Doyle.

Death on the Nile (2022) UK release date

As with all films at the moment, the sequel to Murder on the Orient Express has had its issues with the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, but it has now been confirmed for a UK release date of the 11th February 2022. It’ll be out in the US and Canada on the same date, so there won’t be much online discussion to avoid before it arrives on the big screen.

It’ll have a little competition for the box office number one spot in the UK with an adaptation of Uncharted due out on the same weekend. It’ll also have Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson comedy Marry Me to take on with the same release date. However, looking at the three, our money is on Death on the Nile to come out on top.

It looks set to become a serious franchise in its own right, so it’ll be interesting to see what Agatha Christie novel the production team plan to tackle next.

As the film is coming out in February, it should then have a DVD, Blu-ray and digital release around June 2022 in the UK. There are no details as of yet in terms of when it will be available to stream in the UK.

UK age rating and parents guide

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) won’t confirm the Death on the Nile UK age rating until a little closer to the release date, but we can take a lot from the first film. Murder on the Orient Express was certified 12 and everything that we’ve seen on the new film points to a similar classification on the horizon.

In terms of our parents guide, you should expect the potential of some low level violence and a fleeting glance or two of blood injuries. The previous film saw Poirot getting shot slightly, as well as the image of the murdered gangster John Cassetti, as well as the stabbing of Hubbard by Arbuthnot.

We’ll update you with more details on the film as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming films, or visit the 20th Century Studios website at https://www.20thcenturystudios.com/.

Runtime

The runtime for Death on the Nile (2022) has been confirmed to be 2 hours and 6 minutes, so it’s a little longer than its predecessor, Murder on the Orient Express, which was 1 hour and 54 minutes.
