Elbow get set for The Take Off and Landing of Everything

Elbow, The Take Off and Landing of Everything album front coverElbow are on the verge of a full return to action in 2014 giving Guy Garvey another serious distraction from his DJ duties on BBC 6 Music with new material on the cards. They’ve already started the wheels rolling with the release of a new single, New York Morning, last month (27th January 2014) and they’ll be following it up with their sixth studio album release, The Take Off And Landing of Everything, later this spring.

Set for release on Monday the 10th March 2014, The Take Off of Everything is made up of ten new tracks from the band, which you can see in more detail in the track list below. It’s Elbow’s sixth studio album and it looks like it’s going to be a big year for the five guys from Ramsbottom and their eclectic mix of alt-rock, Brit pop and mild electronica.

The only tracks to be released as of yet are the opening single from the album, New York Morning, and preview track, Fly Boy Blue / Lunette; both of which are already available for digital download. The single is a world-beats infused ponder that’s built up with chopping piano, flickering trumpet melodies and bassy guitar riffs, following a wistful beginning. It contrasts slightly, but ties in well with the preview track’s darker theme, which is a bit of a jazz, rock and ska pie and mash-up.

Elbow will also be embarking on a short set of UK tour dates, featuring a raft of big hall arenas throughout the coutry. They’ll be following this up by a series of European festival dates and gigs in the summer, however, we expect a whole lot more dates to be added to both before the year’s out. We’ve added full details on the 2014 UK tour dates, festival slots and gigs already in the diary below, so post a comment if you’re planning to see them.

The band rose to prominence back in 2005 with the release of their 3rd studio album, Leaders of the Free World, which they followed up in 2008 with their Mercury Prize Winning Seldom Seen Kid. Their sunshine anthem, One Day Like This has had more radio airtime than The Archers (or something along those lines). Lead singer, Guy Garvey, also hosts his Finest Hour show on BBC 6 Music and while he’ll inevitably be pretty busy with the band, there’s no word on him taking a break from the much-loved radio show.
