James Skelly and the Intenders album, gigs and free track

James Skelly and the IntendersIt’s been nearly three years since The Coral released their final album, Butterfly House, but with Bill Ryder-Jones already going strong solo, it’s time for James Skelly to return to the stage with new band, The Intenders, a new album, tour dates and a free download track. The new album, Love Undercover, is due out on the 3rd June 2013 and you can check out the track listing for the record below.

James Skelly and the Intenders, Love Undercover track list:

1. You’ve Got It All
2. Do It Again
3. Here For You
4. Sacrifice
5. Searching For The Sun
6. You and I
7. Set You Free
8. Turn Away
9. What A Day
10. I’m A Man
11. Darkest Days

Produced by James & Ian Skelly, the new album features all of The Coral, as well as members of The Sundowners and Tramp Attack. It was recorded last autumn at Parr Street studios in Liverpool, and if the track list is anything to go by it’s bound to include at least a little of the melancholia that the end of summer brings, as well as the thick slants of sun that The Coral have always bought to their music.

You can listen to Skelly’s preview track, Do It Again, at the band’s website, where you’ll also find the song as a free download to give you a taste of what’s to come. It’s a big departure from the love-in psych-folk sounds on Butterfly House, but it’s got elements of earlier albums, The Coral and Magic and Medicine.

There’s a full force drum beat opening and a blues rock bass line to underpin the growling vocals and crunch of rock ‘n’ roll guitar. It’s got a cool piano mid section and wild riffs, bringing a running pace that we reckon will make the song a serious grower if it gets good airtime on the radio.

The album will be released not long after former Coral bassist, Bill Ryder-Jones’ second album, A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart, which will be out on the 8th April 2013. We’re not sure if this is going to shape up as a new alt-rock rivalry or a friendly double release for the former band mates, but either way you look at it, this summer is going to get at least some element of the old magic.

James Skelly and the Intenders will also be taking to the tour bus to coincide with the release of the album. Seven gigs have been announced for early June to promo the new material from Love Undercover, but it’s got to be a matter of time before the band gets picked up for this summer’s music festivals.
