Moonrise Kingdom Soundtrack album review

Moonrise Kingdom soundtrack albumThe soundtrack album for Moonrise Kingdom is about as left-field as the film itself, but the best thing about it is that it is a great re-introduction to modern music for some lesser known gems. Ranging from classical music and opera to country and French chic pop, it may not be an absolute smash, but it’s definitely an interesting collection of music.

If you had to boil the album down to its core, it’s chant would be “remember me”, like an attempt to make sure that the music contained on it is not so easily forgotten.

Benjamin Britten works as a brilliant introduction to Hank Williams’ Kaw-Liga, singing about a wooden Indian that falls in love with an Indian maid in the antique store, but says nothing to win her affections.

It’s a fun soundtrack album that’s got as much of a root in comedy as it does in musicality, matching the flow of the film perfectly.

Track of the album and film alike is Le Temps de l’Amour, by Françoise Hardy, which could have made Police Academy 6 cool.

For anyone that has seen Moonrise Kingdom, the album will be an instant winner and for all else it is a great reminder of great music from a collection of genres. Good work Wes.
