Parasite, Joker and Judy win big at the 92nd Academy Awards

92nd Academy Awards

While 1917 was the big winner at the BAFTAs, South Korean film Parasite is the big winner at the 92nd Academy Awards with both Joker and Judy sharing the rest of the big four. It was a night of shared honours as no film truly dominated the proceedings, but Parasite picked up the most with four awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Bong Joon-ho, following it’s Palme d’Or win at the 2019 Cannes International Film Festival.

The black comedy thriller also won Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film, making it the first South Korean film to really land big at the Oscars. It was followed by 1917, which picked up three nominations, Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins and Best visual effects for Guillaume Rocheron, Greg Butler and Dominic Tuohy.

Renee Zellweger won Best Actress to give Judy it’s only win and then Joaquin Phoenix was named Best Actor for Joker, which also won Best Original Score for Hildur Guðnadóttir. Jojo Rabbit got in on the action with the Best Adapted Screenplay for Taika Waititi, and the supporting actor/actress honours went to Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Laura Dern in Netflix drama Marriage Story.

Toy Story 4 made history winning the Best Animated Feature Academy Award, following on from the same honour for Toy Story 3. It’s the first time a second sequel in a series has won an Oscar. You can see the full list of winners below.
