The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom how to find Ganondorf

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom how to find Ganondorf

In The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom you can go straight to the final boss fight after The Great Sky Island, but you’ll need to know how to find Ganaondorf first. It was a similar situation with Breath of the Wild after The Great Plateau, so our guide will tell you everything that you need to know.

It works exactly the same, whether you’re looking for a speedy run or you’re playing through the story. If you want to wait until you’ve got all of the Regional Phenomena, Sages and the Master Sword then the ultimate solution is pretty similar in the end.

However, there are some optional activities that you can do along the way in TotK, so the details below will cover all of this. For anyone looking for how to find Ganondorf without that we’ll give you the direct route first.

How to find Ganondorf after the Great Sky Island

You can find Ganondorf from the Great Sky Island by making your way to Hyrule Castle and jumping into the chasm beneath it. The Demon King predecessor to Ganon is holed-up on his throne deep in the Depths with an army protecting him.

It’s obviously easier to get into the Hyrule Castle Chasm with the ability to fly from a Skyview Tower, so you might want to unlock the glider with the quests Purah gives you when you first arrive in Lookout Landing.

With this, you can simply launch from the tower and use the glider to get to the chasm as long as you’ve got enough stamina. If not then you can use a stamina meal part way through to extend the duration of your glider flight.

If you don’t go down this route then you’ll need to do a complicated double Wings trick that entails launching with two of them joined together. You then have to split the one underneath and jump to it just as the first one stops working to be able to fly all of the way.

Once you make it as far as Hyrule Castle you can dive down into the chasm and then you’ll have the depths to navigate to get to the final boss fight itself. You can see the route you need to take for this in the video below from 01:24, but if you’re doing this right from the very start you definitely won’t have the Shield Rocket or the fast travel gates unlocked, so you’ll just need to make it through with what you have.

When you get to the bottom, you’ll then have the Demon King’s Army to fight and without the duplication glitch, which was recently patched, it’s a tough one to make it through. After them, you’ll need to defeat all of the bosses from the temples, so get set to face Colgera, Muchtorok, Marbled Gohma, Queen Gibdo and the Seized Construct.

Once you take these down you’ll find yourself in the corridor leading to the final boss fight for The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. He’s tough, but definitely doable even at this early a stage and without the Sages. You can see a link to our guide for Demon King Ganondorf at the top of the page.

Finding Ganondorf the full story

To find Ganondorf with all of the main story elements and related side quests you need to complete the Great Sky Island, pick up the Glider by completing Purah’s initial quest and do the Hyrule Field Chasm quest for Robbie to begin with. This will then lead you to doing the four Regional Phenomena to pick up the Sages introduced in TotK.

After this, you’ll need to uncover the truth about Zelda who has been spotted around Hyrule and defeat Phantom Ganon. Once this is done you’ll be able to use Ascend to get into the Kakariko Village’s Zonai Ring Ruins to get a clue about what to do next, which will take you off to research ancient ruins and ultimately lead you up to Dragonhead Island.

With the discovery you find there, you’ll get access to the Construct Factory, and once you complete that and defeat the Seized Construct you’ll get a clue about the Master Sword. You can see our guide to unlocking the Master Sword for more details on this section of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

With the Master Sword and each of the Sages, you’re now ready to head off to find Ganondorf, but the only clue the game tells you is to pursue the Chasm research with Josha. You can bypass this and just go straight to the Hyrule Castle Chasm and use the video above to see the route to take at 01:24.

However, if you’re determined to get all of the details on how to find Ganondrof then this will see you following a series of statues in the depths until you come face-to-face with Master Kohga. The leader of the Yiga Clan returns from The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild having been trapped in the Depths when you defeated him last time around.

You will have to repeat this a few times with various boss fights with Kohga along the way. The quickest way to follow the statues is with a flying vehicle with lights on the front, otherwise all of this will be fairly laborious.

For the final confrontation with Master Kohga you’ll get a clue to a new chasm in Hebra that will take you directly to Kohga. You can see our guide to the Rito Village Chasm entrance for more details, but it’s located on the side of the base close to the shrine and you’re looking for the smoke from a Zonai Researcher’s camp fire to get to it.

Once you go into the chasm and beat Kohga again you’ll get a monologue from him about where to find Ganondorf. As mentioned above, it’s the Hyrule Castle Chasm, and making it through this and beating the final boss is a lot easier when you complete it with the story elements. However, if you’re struggling, you can follow the tips below to help you through.

Tips for to help you get to Ganondorf

If you’ve tried the route to Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, but you’ve still not made it to the final boss fight then you might want to do the Robbie Quest about his Purah Pad research. This will see you fixing his balloon and clearing out his old laboratory.

One of the upgrades you can get for the Purah Pad is to drop fast travel points anywhere you want and these work pretty well on your route down to Ganondorf. This means that you can clear a section, drop a fast travel portal, return to Lookout Landing for some rest and recuperation and then fast travel back to tackle the next part of the run.

This will work all the way down to the Demon King’s Army and our top tip to help you with this section in story playthrough is area of effect arrows. Topaz and Ruby are very effective, but with the recent patch of the duplication glitch from Version 1.1.1 you might not have many of these.

Other alternatives include bomb arrows and Riju’s lightning blast. You can also run a lot to allow your Sages to do most of the work. This will save your resources for Ganondorf and keep you relatively unscathed.

Make sure you’ve got plenty of Gloom affected heart meals in your inventory and if you’re not too sure what this is you can see our guide to the Kakariko Village sick grandma to get the recipe. You can also get Gloom protection with Dark Clump meals and you get the main ingredient by exchanging Poes for it at the statue next to Josha in Lookout Landing.

With the first of these, you can replenish your broken hearts when you take damage on the way to Ganondorf. With the second, you’ll have protection from Gloom when you come into contact with it. You can also take a few attack up meals with you to help with the Demon King’s Army.

Read our guide to Mighty Banana to find a good farming spot in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. There are plenty of other buffs you can try, but attack-up will help you get through the Army fights and you can always put your best armor on to raise your defense game.
