Ozark Netflix UK release date, trailer, cast and story details announced

Ozark Netflix UK releaseNetflix has just released a teaser trailer for upcoming crime thriller Ozark starringĀ Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) as the lead star in the impressive cast. It’s a big transition for the actor, who’s used to more comedy roles. The upcoming Netflix production looks pretty serious, so it’s going to be interesting to see if he’s as good as he looks in the new trailer for the show (below).

There are are overtones of both Breaking Bad and the Fargo TV series to the show, but the big is that this sees the characters starting out bad, despite their seemingly ordinary family life. Instead, this is the story of last resort efforts to out from inside the organised crime world, but as you would expect, it’s not going to be easy.

UK release date

Ozark will be released in the UK and US on the 21st July 2017, so there’s a little under two months to go before it makes its debut. It’s yet another Netflix Original series, so you’ll only be able to see the show on the video-on-demand network in the UK unless it goes on to be released on DVD and Blu-ray later on in the year.

Story

The plot revolves around Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman), a quiet family man who’s devoted to his wife Wendy and kids Charlotte and Jonah. While on the surface they’re pretty ordinary in a wealthy kind of way, the truth is that the money comes from Marty’s job as the money laundering guru for the second biggest drugs cartel in Mexico.

From the look of the trailer, things get pretty squeaky for Marty as the danger of the situation begins to hit home, leading him to take desperate measures. However, making a family of four disappear from the massive reach of his paymasters from the cartel is not going to be without its risks.

Cast

In addition to Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, Ozark also stars Laura Linney (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows) as his wife Wendy, Sofia Hublitz as his teenage daughter Charlotte and Skyler Gaertner as his son Jonah. The cast also includes Julia Garner and Michael Mosley. You can see more from Jason Bateman and his work on the show with his Twitter page.

Production

The show has been written and created by Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) for Netflix with Jason Bateman taking the director’s chair. The show has got a pretty cool Instagram page for the production, which is worth checking out to see genius way it’s setup its 42 pics to make up the setting of the series.

First impressions

Ozark looks for all intents and purposes as though it’s going to be a quality crime thriller with nearly 10-hours of viewing time to enjoy. The trailer looks impressive with both Jason Bateman and Laura Linney showing signs of stand-out performances from a strong cast, so we’re looking forward to catching this when the release date rolls around in July. If the opening ten episodes turn out to be as taught as they’re looking then it could go on to be a recurring series.
